Saturn Today - Calendar of Events 7th Annual October Sky Festival The 7th Annual October Sky Festival will be held on October 1, 2005. Come to Coalwood, West Virginia and meet the Rocket Boys of the book and movie October Sky. See http://www.homerhickam.com/coalwood/ for news and information on the festival and advice on how to get there. Cape Coalwood will be open all day for rocket launchings. Homer Hickam will be around to sign books and rockets and DVD/tapes.  Original Rocket Boys Roy Lee, O'Dell, and Billy will also be there with many of the "real" characters in the book and movie including the coal company machinists who built the amazing Auks that flew miles into the sky. NASA is supporting the festival with a display showing its latest plans to explore the solar system. Busloads of students are expected from surrounding states for a day of fun and education. 100% of the proceeds from the October Sky Festival goes to support youth activities and programs in Coalwood.
